Welcome to Power Edge Pro small area skills training.  Training that makes training FUN!

Training players to play in small, confined, high traffic areas promotes the ability to maneuver in congested areas during games, especially when statistics tell us that two thirds of any game is played with all players concentrated in one zone. This kind of resistance training will help players master puck and agility skills to quickly create space and time needed to make plays.

Small Area Training

Training players to play in small, confined, high traffic areas promotes the ability to maneuver in congested areas during games, especially when statistics tell us that two thirds of any game is played with all players concentrated in one zone. This kind of resistance training will help players master puck and agility skills to quickly create spaceand time needed to make plays.

There are lots of small area games like scrimmages and all types of other games that utilize small areas. These small area games are becoming more and more of a staple for today’s hockey training programs. They are no match for training with Power Edge Pro for developing small area performance.

The Power Edge Pro training apparatus adds another dimension to small area training that other systems can’t. Space under the big apparatus allows for development and the distance between each piece can be reduced to increase resistance and reduce reaction time and enhance players to develop skills quicker and faster.

Weak Side and Strong Side Training

Change of DirectionWhat does ‘weak side’ training mean? In hockey it refers to doing drills in opposite directions. For example, players will naturally do things using their dominant side (strong side), the right or the left side. We skate a circle easier either clockwise or counter-clockwise; the easy way is the strong side. Weak side training addresses the need in hockey for players to be able to do maneuvers ‘both ways’, to the right and to the left. Defensemen need the ability to pivot right and left, forwards need to be able to protect the puck by performing tight turns clockwise and counter-clockwise.

How many players can shoot while ‘off balance’ and on the ‘off wing’? Power Edge Pro trains players to become equally skilled whether playing on their strong side (forehand) or weak side (backhand). From the first session, Power Edge Pro training will focus on total training—both strong side and weak-side. This training enables players to move comfortably anywhere on the ice during a game as they develop there ‘weak side’ through constant repetition of patterns and maneuvers. Players now have a big advantage as they don’t lose co-ordination or firepower like most players with a poorly developed weak side.

Our exclusive patented apparatus train players to become proficient on both sides—with the puck. Players also become equally skilled whether they are playing on their strong side of the ice (forehand) or their weak side of the ice (backhand). Not many players can say their ‘backhand toe drag’ is equal or better than their ‘forehand toe drag’. PEP training can give you a huge competitive advantage as you develop your ‘weak side’.

Skating with Explosive Change of Direction

Change of DirectionComputer analysis using high speed film has shown that the average time a professional hockey player skates at full speed on any time during a game is 2-3 seconds followed by a change of direction. Today, skills required for the ‘new NHL’ are quick, explosive movements and quick change of direction. Any quick turn, delay, pivot from backward to forward or lateral movement creates time and space and separates the best skaters from the rest.

In hockey it’s rare that a player starts from a standstill. In fact, explosive acceleration in hockey is usually required after a turn or quick stop/start. To do this, players will need quick feet, powerful strides, strong balance and great edge control. Elite skaters have developed leg quickness and strength, balance and flexibility which are key components of agility! Power Edge Pro training is designed specifically to improve skaters in all of these areas.

Players often get bored in typical training sessions like power skating–not with Power Edge Pro. PEP is a step beyond power skating. At our PEP sessions, skaters are taught from the first moments to ‘leave their comfort zone’. The Power Edge Pro Training System will put your edges, stick handling, puck control and conditioning to the test!

First, instructors identify skater’s skill set. The second step is to apply the correct skating patterns and techniques through on-ice demonstrations, feedback, progression and repetition of specific Power Edge Pro skating skills. This will eliminate any bad habits or weaknesses.

The changes in players skating are developed through repetition of unique skating movements and resistance created by using Power Edge Pro training apparatus.

Players will perform puck skills through various PEP skating patterns, gradually increasing to maximum speed as they learn patterns and skills. After attacking the first PEP device with speed, followed by a quick change of direction, the player must regenerate speed and accelerate to the next device thereby promoting and developing‘first step quickness’ and ‘transition’ skating.

With repetition of these patterns, the skater learns the feeling of inside edge control including recovery, proper cross over, cross under, and proper leg extension. Skaters also learn the feeling of body lean, fall, acceleration, and will start ‘trusting edges’ for maximizing explosive acceleration especially cornering and in between the PEP devices. Change of direction at maximum speed will be a natural product from this training.

Stick Handling and Puck Control

Stick Handling and Puck ControlPlayers during Power Edge Pro training will be performing puck handling skills and puck control movements. Challenging and fun, PEP sessions incorporate a multitude of stick handling agility moves, smart puck placement, changing position/angles for better scoring options including lots of forehand and backhand toe-drag movements.

Players love the challenge!

Stick handling Agility Techniques – fakes, stick control (toe) puck protection, foot control and balance, dekes, over the PEP device forehand, over the PEP device backhand, forehand and backhand under the PEP device, The “Ovechkin” (pull in and push out, backhand spin, forehand spin), The “Crosby” (on the fly, and down Low) are players favourites patterns for good reasons!
